Plastics – Something New I Learnt Today

Hello Everyone. So as you may have guessed, I spend a lot of time online. It’s borderline unhealthy, but there’s nothing else to do this vacation. Oh yes! And speaking of vacations, my university decided that students, after being stressed out with assignments, projects, tests and the vicissitudes of online learning, deserved some rest at the end of the semester. So they gave us a break… A two week break. Well that’s not inadequate at all…

So anyway, I thought I’d make good use of the severely limited free time I have until next sem, by posting as often as I can in the coming days.

Everyday I consume information in many forms, and every once in a while I see or hear or experience something that makes me go, ‘WOW’.   I thought it would be nice to share some of this stuff with you from time to time, and that’s why I’m starting this new series called….

Something New I learnt Today, or SNILT for short (the name is a work in progress). Here’s the very first installment, I hope you enjoy it!

So today I learnt something new about plastics from the Youtube channel Climate Town

Recently, with all the climate activism and concern for the environment, we’ve heard a lot of people push for Recycling of plastic. But here’s the problem: A huge amount of the plastic surrounding us is not recycled, because it’s not really recyclable. This means that it ends up in landfills or the ocean where it breaks down into micro-plastics, which end up inside fish, which are eaten by us.

This guy 👇explains it better than I could ever hope to, so I’ll give him the floor.

I hope this video gave you something to think about. Let me know what you think in the comments. Till next time, Bye.

About me... where to even begin. I'm an introvert, above all else, who basically likes to write about the stuff that happens around me. I'm an avid reader, scrabble player and software developer... Oh and I dabble in a bit of crochet.
